SINGLE STREAM MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY
- First Single Stream Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in New England.
- One of the first dust capture systems in a material recovery facility in the country.
- Unique fast-track design build sequence:
- Developed RFP and helped with selection of single stream process design/build vendor.
- Developed site plans, building floor plans and building elevations based on process
plans by single stream design/build vendor.
- Provided permitting assistance for all state and local permitting including ACT 250.
- Prepared RFP and helped with selection of design/build contractor for building additions.
- Prepared RFP and helped with selection of design/build contractor for heating and
ventilation of sorting rooms and for dust capture system.
- Provided part-time construction observation, design and shop drawing review for all
design/build phases.
- Overall recycling capacity increased by 100% while footprint only increased 30%.
- Single Stream advantages over typical dual system stream (separate fiber and container
lines) system:
- Typically increases recycling by 10% to 30% due to ease of sorting at source.
- Can save 10% to 30% of collection costs due to simplified combined recycling containers
and trucks.
- Sorting areas have insulated enclosures with heating and 100% outside air ventilation
for employee comfort and improved productivity.
- Dust capture system features:
- High efficiency cartridge system with automatic pneumatic purge system.
- 75 HP exhaust fan with high efficiency motor and soft-start controls.
- Custom linear intake hoods located at critical points along process screening equipment.
- 28,000 CFM capacity provides improved air quality and increased productivity.
