WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY UPGRADE
- Additional flow and solids handling capacity allows for economic growth throughout
the community including $27M correctional facility, future industrial park and other
businesses at I-91 interchange.
- Defined significant and complex sequencing to allow new construction to proceed in
an efficient and practical manner, while maintaining existing treatment functions
on very tight site.
- New state-of-the-art Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controls entire treatment
process, replacing antiquated analog controls.
- New Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system monitors all treatment
processes and includes telemetry to transmit remote alarms for all critical treatment
units to the operator that is on call. Also includes remote control software and
a laptop computer for operator access from home to acknowledge alarms and to monitor
and control process elements to minimize overtime site visits.
- Assisted in getting special legislation to provide one-time $2.1M Phosphorus Grant.
- Unique combination of funding resulted in only $1.8M of loans for $11M total project
cost.
- Completed on time and $2.2M below budget.
- New headworks building with vortex grit removal system, mechanical fine screen and
influent flow meter.
- New septage receiving facility with peristaltic pump for controlled septage feeding.
- New anaerobic selector tank with submersible mixers to optimize biological phosphorus
removal and significantly reduce chemical use and sludge disposal costs.
- New aeration tank with high efficiency fine bubble aeration system and aeration blowers
with variable frequency drives.
- New secondary clarifies with spiral rake blades, stamford baffles, and algae sweep
automation.
- New ultraviolet (UV) open channel disinfection with low intensity horizontal lamps
with flow proportional controls to save energy.
